Our Story
A name that belongs to the Amazon
In 2011, as Alter do Chão — a village on the banks of the Tapajós River famous for its freshwater beaches — began to attract the eyes of the world, foreigners tried to register the village's name as their own trademark. To keep that name belonging to the Amazon and to the people who live there, ALTER DO CHÃO® was born: a registered brand created, above all, to protect.
For more than a decade the brand was kept as a symbol of protection of the Amazon, releasing products slowly, with no rush to sell — at the pace of the forest. Today, under the direction of Roberto Carrer, that protected name gives life to a house of virgin oils: every batch carefully selected, with no chemical additives, and an uncompromising commitment to the standing forest.
“We protected a name so that it would remain the forest's.”
